Ferrari won't join LMP1 sooner than 2017

It makes no sense for them, or anyone else, to join LMP1 in 2016, one year before the 2017 rule change.

Toyota joined in 2012, and built a new P1 car for just one season, because Peugeot unexpectedly quit at the end of 2011, leaving Audi without any opposition.

You could say the same thing about Ford jumping in with the GT before the 2016 regs are set and supposedly they're going to go racing this year.

But no, I'd be surprised if Ferrari joins the LMP1 fray anytime soon. The focus has to be on making the F1 team competitive again and they have a fairly competent kind-of-factory GT program in AF Corse. Why dump $400 million into an LMP1 program when you're trying to make Ferrari attractive to investors?

Toyota is doing it for less than 200 mill. Ever wondered why they never bring a third car to Le Mans?

And like I said it before. They could always rebrand the cars as Maserati or Alfa.

Ferrari will not enter unless there is a major shuffle in F1. Maybe something like a very low budget cap. Also, Ferrari politically couldn't justify spending at least 150 Million € for LMP1 racing when their F1 cars are beaten by an energy drink and the germans.

Yeah but is Ferrari one to do anything on a budget? If they did it, you know they'd throw money at it.

They only supply the V8 engine used by Rebellion racing.

Kinja'd!!!

Still, it is a pretty basic engine that isn't bringing a lot of money, not for the level we're speaking off.

If they brand the team as Alfa or Maserati, maybe they could get a little more money from Fiat, as it would mean both advertising and R&D gains for the brand they choose.
